Research Methods and Statistics is a subject in the BAMS (Ayurvedacharya) syllabus. It is also refined at postgraduate level, particular to specialization. It is important for a student to learn it, not for securing good marks or grades but as a professional skill to do good clinical practice.

Instructor Bio:

Dr. Asmita Wele is the professor and head of the department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajyakalpana Vigyan [Ayurveda pharmacology] at College of Ayurveda Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University in Pune, India. She is also Honorary Professor, University of Debrecen, Hungary. Her expertise lies in designing and execution of end to end research projects of Ayurvedic formulations. She has been Principle investigator of DST project, AYUSH projects, and member of AYUSH-International Co-operation committee, of scientific advisory committee of Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar and of BoS and Academic Council of BHU, Varanasi. She has delivered more than 100 lectures as a resource person in several interdisciplinary workshops and conferences and on public platforms. She has published over 40 research papers, articles, chapters and also authored a book on research methodology. She is a reviewer for some indexed journals from Elsevier, Scopus and PubMed databases. Her areas of special interest are Asthma, Cancer and Neuropsychology and Nutrition apart from her expertise in Ayurveda drug development. Consistent with her family legacy of ‘Vaidya’ tradition from Goa, Dr. Asmita has earned her BAMS. and MD degrees from the University of Poona. Dr Asmita is an active member of many organizations. She has travelled to Europe, USA, Mexico, Africa, Nordic countries, Middle East, UK etc on professional assignments. Consistent with her family legacy of ‘Vaidya’ tradition from Goa, Dr. Asmita has earned her B. A. M. S. and M. D. degrees from the University of Poona (SPPU). She is also a practicing physician of Integrative lifestyle management for Cancer, Respiratory Diseases, Sleep disorders, and PCOD.

Instructor Bio:

Dr. Supriya Bhalerao has more than 20 years of experience in Interdisciplinary research. She started her research career under the guidance of Late Dr. Shardini Dahanukar (a modern pharmacologist) at Ayurveda Research Center, KEM Hospital Mumbai in 1999. Currently, she is working as an Associate Professor and Head, Obesity-Diabetes lab at Interactive Research School for Health Affairs, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University, Pune-India since 2013 . Her lab has developed in vitro and in vivo models to evaluate the effect of Ayurvedic drugs and formulations. The lab has successfully completed randomized, controlled, clinical studies in these disease conditions. Currently, she is working on a clinical study involving yoga intervention in pre-diabetic individuals that is supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Her lab is also involved in capacity building in Ayurveda related research methodology. Dr Supriya has completed her MD and PhD in Ayurveda and Post-Graduate Diploma in Bioethics. Her areas of interest are Ayurvedic concepts and therapeutic procedures for management of metabolic diseases.
